Trip overview

This two-day plan keeps the first day in central Yuzhong and uses the second day for Liziba plus either Ciqikou or the south-bank riverfront. It is deliberately flexible around queues and weather.

Route map

01Day 1: Jiefangbei -> Eighteen Steps -> Hongya Cave -> Raffles City
02Day 2: Liziba -> Ciqikou -> optional cableway or Longmenhao

Day 1 - Central Chongqing after dark

A compact Yuzhong route with the strongest night-view payoff.

Jiefangbei

Orient at the monument and walk the main pedestrian streets before crowds build.

Eighteen Steps

Walk downhill through the stair route. Use a side lane for an early lunch or coffee.

Raffles City

Use Chaotianmen for architecture, river views and an indoor break during the hottest part of the day.

Hongya Cave

Arrive before peak darkness if possible, then use the road-side and riverside angles for the facade.

Jiefangbei dinner

Return to the central area for a flexible meal rather than a fixed reservation immediately after the night view.

Day 2 - Metro landmark and one slower area

A short transit stop followed by a half-day choice.

Liziba Station

Use Line 2 and watch one or two trains from the public viewing platform.

Ciqikou Ancient Town

Take the metro to Line 1, walk the main lane once, then choose a quieter side street and lunch.

Buffer and rest

Return to your hotel or keep this block free for weather, shopping and a slower meal.

Choose one evening add-on

Use the cableway only if the queue and weather work; otherwise keep the evening in Jiefangbei or walk Longmenhao.

Where to stay

Base around Jiefangbei if you want the easiest first-trip access to central sights and late food.

Choose Nan'an if river views and Longmenhao matter more and you are comfortable crossing the river for Yuzhong landmarks.

Check the uphill walk between your hotel and the nearest metro exit; the district name alone does not tell you the slope.

Optional alternatives

  • Replace Ciqikou with Longmenhao if you prefer river views to old-town shopping.
  • Replace Raffles City with a longer meal and hotel break in hot or heavy rain.
  • If the cableway queue is long, use a riverside viewpoint and keep the itinerary on time.

Common planning mistakes

  • Putting every attraction on a fixed minute-by-minute schedule
  • Booking the cableway immediately after Hongya Cave
  • Underestimating the return walk after a downhill route
  • Treating a two-day plan as two consecutive photo sprints

Frequently asked questions

Is this Chongqing two-day itinerary too busy?

It is active but realistic if you use the metro and keep the cableway optional. The plan deliberately leaves a buffer on day two.

Can I do this itinerary without taxis?

Yes for the main stops, though a ride-hailing trip can save time on the final uphill or downhill kilometre. Metro plus walking is the backbone.

Where should I stay for two days in Chongqing?

Jiefangbei is the simplest first-trip base. Nan'an works if you value riverfront evenings and do not mind crossing to Yuzhong.

What should I cut if I only have one day?

Keep Jiefangbei, Eighteen Steps and Hongya Cave as the central route. Add either Raffles City or the cableway, not both unless queues are light.
